<image:caption>I am a Kansas City based therapist, licensed in both Kansas and Missouri. I provide individual therapy to adults and adolescents 14+, and I am a LGBTQ+ affirming therapist. My mission as your therapist is to help you grow into the best version of yourself. Life can be difficult and you may be feeling held down by feelings of depression and anxiety. <image:title>About Me - My Therapeutic Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>My practice is grounded in a person-centered approach, which means my main goal is meeting your needs. I ensure you feel seen, heard, and understood every session. Research shows the best predictor of effective therapy is the therapeutic relationship itself. A good therapeutic relationship includes having an emotional bond of trust, caring, and respect; agreement on the goals of therapy; and collaboration on the "work" or tasks of the treatment. In therapy, I will walk with you in bettering yourself and overcoming your struggles by developing healthy coping skills and challenging unhelpful beliefs about yourself. I use a non-judgmental, collaborative approach to create a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Partnering together for our therapeutic relationship is a step toward your growth. I will help you get unstuck and reduce your struggling. I provide a free phone consultation to ensure that we are a good fit for each other.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Me - I’m Britta Ekholm, a clinically licensed therapist based in the Kansas City area.</image:title>
<image:caption>My background I obtained my undergraduate degree in psychology from Kansas State University and my graduate degree in substance abuse and clinical counseling from East Carolina University. I have always loved putting myself in someone else’s shoes and seeing the world through their eyes. As a therapist, I do that very thing with my clients. I seek to understand your world view and find creative ways to heal the parts of you that are hurting. I work with people with a wide array of issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, addiction, grief, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. I have experience in various levels of care, including hospitalization, psychiatric residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient treatment. I help my clients learn how to handle intense emotions, reduce problem behaviors, and replace negative thoughts with more helpful thoughts.</image:caption>
